Project Description:
Our goal for this collaboration is to get an introduction to the Inspire Citizens Empathy to Impact framework and use it to level up an existing unit or project that you currently teach.
This framework consists of four steps, Care, Aware, Able, and Impact. By using this framework, we can look at learning through a different lens to make authentic connections to something that we truly care about. This might be a sustainable development target, a social justice issue, living in greater harmony with nature, the holistic well-being of our community, or another global issue viewed through a local lens.
We will then explore tools and strategies that allow students to become more deeply aware of the issue they care about. Next, depending on the action that students are working towards, they will need skills and knowledge to be able to carry this out successfully. This might include interdisciplinary knowledge from the curriculum, technology skills, project management skills, leadership skills, or perhaps they will need to learn to think like a filmmaker, or social entrepreneur. As part of this work, students should be encouraged to make connections with individuals and/or organizations who are doing similar work in their local community to address this issue and explore how they might be able to contribute to this work in a meaningful way where they are learning from and acting with a community partner for their action. Students will then carry out their action and reflect on the impact of their work.
The outcome of our Huddle Up collaboration will be an enhanced unit plan, or project plan that can be implemented in the next semester.
The Huddle Up Learning platform is a new model allowing teams to asynchronously collaborate, learn and take action together. If you share our passion, connect with us for a free demo or give a shout out on social media.
