Asked Questions

How is Huddle Up different from a typical process where we learn in an LMS and collaborate via virtual or F2F meetings?

Our goal is for learners to take action (not simply 'comprehend material') and collaborate in one platform.  Applying the content not only makes the learning more engaging and meaningful, but it allows the team to have a diversity of solutions (one from each member) so that we can learn from other's solutions and leverage peer feedback to improve.

Our current systems work well enough. Would this mean I have to replace them?

Not necessarily. You may already have a library of  resources. Continue sharing content via those methods if you wish. With one click, you can extend your team's learning into a Huddle Up project by asking them to APPLY those concepts in Huddle Up as they share ideas, solutions, and feedback.  Depending on the project, you may choose to structure the entire experience directly into Huddle Up (add your existing videos, PDFs, and other learning resources) to create a one-stop stand-alone interactive experience. The choice is yours.

What if I don't want my team to give feedback to each other?

That's fine. The Huddles are completely optional. Use them in places where they fit best. Or, simply rely on the innovative idea that you have a place where each member of the team can share a solution and access the solutions of others.

Is the feedback confidential?

It can be. Project leaders can toggle a switch to make Huddle feedback confidential or display names. It's your choice.

If the answers are shared with everyone, won't people just copy other answers to finish the work?

Initially, we encourage questions that don't have a "right" answer. That forces each user to create their own solution. But on a more practical level, the Project Leader can determine when the user responses will be displayed and who sees them (everyone or just the Project Leader).

What kind of data will I get?

Each user is able to receive feedback that is qualitative (comments) and quantitative (objective/numerical). This fuels the improvement of each individual and also helps the team learn and make data-informed decisions as ideas, feedback, and data are visible to everyone.

Can I assign who gives feedback to whom?

Yes. With a few simple clicks, Project Leaders can set up the Huddle to have every user give feedback to everyone or to a specific number of users. Better yet, these pairings of users can be randomly assigned or manually assigned by the Project Leader.

Besides Huddles, how else does Huddle Up foster interaction?

Huddles provide a direct way for users to interact with each other by giving feedback, but it's not the only way.  Each RUN task has its own Group Chat allowing users to share questions, resources, and links to help everyone. Additionally, each RUN  can also allow Open Feedback (comments) so that any user can give feedback. Lastly, we provide an internal Direct Messaging system so that any user can send one (or more) recipients private feedback.

Can I afford this?

Most plans cost about $5 per user / per month.

Doesn't this require a high level of trust between everyone?

Trust certainly helps. The great thing is that Project Leaders have the flexibility to build in as much or as little sharing and feedback as they wish. Innovative organizations need teams that can learn from each other. So, the question is "How do you best build this trust?

How do you best build a team's level of trust and collaboration?

We believe the best way to learn the skills of collaboration, feedback, and balancing a diversity of perspectives isn't some separate project taught in isolation of YOUR context. These skills are learned and developed within collaborative projects where each team members work through an authentic challenge - and learn from each other along the way.

Can I really customize the experience just for my team?

Completely. There's no shortage of great resources out there. Huddle Up creates an environment where your resources can be shared and implemented, collaboratively.   Add a Ready, Runs, or Huddle in any sequence you wish to maximize your team's learning and interaction.

What if a team member isn't keeping up with the cohort?

Let's face it. That happens in any experience. In Huddle Up, the progress of each user is visible to everyone in the cohort. With Huddle Up, the goal is to learn from each other's solutions AND the feedback you receive on your own solution. For those that choose to drop out, their lack of completion is visible to everyone, and it's apparent to their team. They also lose out on receiving feedback on their ideas. We believe that's a better way to keep everyone on the team engaged and build a culture of shared purpose.

Can Huddle Up be self-paced? Can I add interaction later?

Yes. If your team is not ready to share solutions with each other, then set up your experience as a self-paced experience where learners don't see each other's ideas. The choice is yours. (But we are big believers that shared solutions and feedback is a game-changer for each team - and individuals within.)

Can I clone an experience to use with the next group?

Yes. With one click all of your resources and learning tasks will be cloned and all the users (and their answers) will be removed. You can still edit the newly cloned project if desired.

How can Huddle Up minimize the time we spend in meetings?

Yes. When teams have a platform to share ideas and feedback, we give everyone a voice (something that seldom happens in meetings). By giving an opportunity for everyone to share their thinking, we can minimize the amount of time needed in face-to-face meetings. More importantly, when your team does meet, there is an archive of all the ideas, feedback, and data. That sort of information is accessible to everyone and fuels a much more productive meeting.

A Note from Our Founder

Derek Luebbe, CEO

As a lifelong educator, I created Huddle Up Learning because I fundamentally believe learning is a process that should naturally be engaging (and fun!). Yet, I saw two fundamental problems with the way we approach organizational learning platforms.

Initially, there was never a shortage of awesome things to learn and get excited about. Content was never the problem. The problem exists in the disconnect between what we call learning (theoretically comprehending concept/topic)  and the gap that exists when people try to apply that learning and take action. (Harvard studies suggest we only apply about 12% of what we actually "learn."  Yikes.

The second problem I saw was that we typically view learning as an isolating experience (completed in a platform or handed into some supervisor/instructor). We then tend to collaborate on some other platform. Why do we have to think of learning and collaboration as distinct skills, detached from one another, and completed on different platforms? They are connected and we are doing learners everywhere an injustice when we do not try to align them to the greatest degree possible.

That's why we created Huddle Up Learning.

Huddle Up goes beyond quizzes. It's tied to action - and then we leverage social learning by sharing ideas and feedback along the way.

Our mission is to transform the way that teams and individuals collaborate and learn by making the experience more interactive and engaging. At the end of the day, we don't want to just learn ideas and skills - we want to learn from each other.

I've always been a fan of Margaret Mead's quote: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." That was our driving force  - to make a change in how we collaborate and learn. By extension, I hope a platform like Huddle Up enables your team to make the change you desire for your organization.
